Although it seems like the Premier League only just finished, the new season is already right around the corner, writes Ben Blake.

The new Premier League season should bring plenty of thrills as well as some new changes.

One of the biggest changes will be due to accommodating the Qatar World Cup, which is scheduled to take place between November and December. Additionally, the new season will allow all clubs to make up to five subs per game.

For Palace, the season begins on the opening day of the season. Palace will host Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the 5th of August before travelling to Anfield to play Liverpool on the 13th of the month.

It’s a tough start for the Eagles, but there are a lot of positives for the upcoming Premier League campaign. Crystal Palace look to be on the rise under Patrick Viera, and with plenty of talented young players, the future is looking bright.

Betway odds for the 2022-23 season place Palace finishing in midtable, but some experts believe that qualifying for Europe could be possible. Here are some of the things to expect for the new season.

Possible Transfers

New transfers are one of the most exciting things about the start of a new season. With the transfer window now open, there have been plenty of rumours swirling around about who could be joining Selhurst Park this summer.

The club seems focused on bringing in young, exciting talent, with additions such as Marc Guehi and Michael Olise and loan signing Conor Gallagher all making a difference last season.

It's unclear whether the club is likely to resign Gallagher, with current reports stating that the young midfielder will be returning to Chelsea to fight for his place in their starting eleven. In his place, Crystal Palace will need to find a similar player, one who’s capable of adding goals and pressing from the front.

One name that has been heavily linked to Crystal Palace is 18-year-old winger Michael Ebiowei. The former Arsenal academy player has just completed a season for Derby and is valued at around £10 million.

He’d be a great addition to the side and also had interest from Manchester United. Current reports state that he’s passed his medical with Palace and will be announced soon.

Another name that has been brought up a lot in Crystal Palace transfer rumours is former player AARON WAN-BISSAKA. The right-back, who currently plays for Manchester United, left London in 2019 for £50 million.

However, he’s failed to impress for the Devils and has been linked with a move away. Some have reported interest from Palace, but this is thought to just be rumours for now.

The Next Step for Vieira

Patrick Vieira joined Crystal Palace as manager at the start of last season, coming from Nice in Ligue 1. As a former Premier League midfielder himself, Vieira knows the league well, and the move was met with a lot of interest.

Although he had struggled at Nice, his work as an academy coach for Manchester City and time in charge at New York City FC showed a lot of promise.

In his first season, Vieira has shown why so many people were interested in how he’d get on, providing that he has what it takes to be a Premier League manager.

Palace looked incredibly exciting at times. However, there’s still a lot of work to do. Despite showing so much promise, especially in attack, the team struggled to hold onto games they were winning.

On many occasions, the Eagles let in late goals, leading to dropped points. In the end, they finished 12th, and fans will be hoping that Vieira can take them to the next level.
